International Day of Yoga was first celebrated on 21st June 2015, following its initiation in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. So this day is celebrated to create awareness about the benefits. Also, it is one of the oldest and purest forms of practice that connects the mind with your soul.

Hence, the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi proposed the idea of this Day. So after this UN General Assembly aimed to title this International Day of Yoga on 14th October 2014. In India “Rajpath” was the place where it was first introduced and inducted. Also, there 21 different asanas were demonstrated which led to a record of winning two Guinness world records by PM Modi and other dignitaries. So the two records achieved are –
- It was the world’s largest yoga class with 35,985 people.
- Record of the maximum number of participating nationalities which is 84.
